Living in Branson

Branson is a somewhat small city located in the state of Missouri. With a population of 12,947 people and nine associated neighborhoods, Branson is the 63rd largest community in Missouri.

Of important note, Branson is also a city of artists. Branson has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Branson’s character.

A relatively large number of people in Branson telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 13.25% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Another notable thing is that Branson is a major vacation destination. Much of the city’s population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependent on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Branson’s population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.

Compared to the rest of the country, citizens of Branson spend much less time in their cars: on average, their commute to work is only 18.50 minutes. This also means that noise and pollution levels in the city are less than they would otherwise be.

As is often the case in a small city, Branson doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

In terms of college education, Branson is somewhat better educated than the 21.84% who have a 4-year degree or higher in the typical US community: 26.82% of adults 25 and older in the city have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Branson in 2022 was $30,706, which is upper middle income relative to Missouri, and middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $122,824 for a family of four. However, Branson contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.
