Overton profile

Living in Overton

Overton is a somewhat small town located in the state of Nevada. With a population of 5,591 people and two associated neighborhoods, Overton is the 21st largest community in Nevada.

Of important note, Overton is also a town of artists. Overton has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Overton’s character.

Also of interest is that Overton has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 8.00% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Overton has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Overton has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Overton than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Overton may be for you.

One downside of living in Overton, however, is that residents on average have to contend with a long commute, spending on average 32.05 minutes every day commuting to work.

As is often the case in a small town, Overton doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

In terms of college education, Overton is nearly on par with the US average for all cities of 21.84%: 19.61% of adults 25 and older in Overton have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree.

The per capita income in Overton in 2022 was $33,555, which is middle income relative to Nevada and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $134,220 for a family of four. However, Overton contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

Overton is a somewhat ethnically-diverse town. The people who call Overton home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups. The greatest number of Overton residents report their race to be White, followed by Native American. Overton also has a sizeable Hispanic population (people of Hispanic origin can be of any race). People of Hispanic or Latino origin account for 14.81% of the town’s residents. Important ancestries of people in Overton include English, German, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh.

The most common language spoken in Overton is English. Other important languages spoken here include Spanish and Polish.
