Huntingdon profile

Living in Huntingdon

Huntingdon is a somewhat small borough located in the state of Pennsylvania. With a population of 6,898 people and four associated neighborhoods, Huntingdon is the 194th largest community in Pennsylvania. Huntingdon has an unusually large stock of pre-World War II architecture, making it one of the older and more historic boroughs.

A relatively large number of people in Huntingdon telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 12.94% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Huntingdon is a small town with a large college student population. Because of this, there is a real youthful, hip vibe to the place, and much of the life in the town is centered on the college. This has helped Huntingdon to buck the trend of other small towns that have suffered declining populations over the past 20 to 30 years. Spending by students, and faculty and staff jobs, are a big part of the local economy.

Compared to the rest of the country, citizens of Huntingdon spend much less time in their cars: on average, their commute to work is only 17.93 minutes. This also means that noise and pollution levels in the borough are less than they would otherwise be.

As is often the case in a small borough, Huntingdon doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

In terms of college education, Huntingdon is somewhat better educated than the 21.84% who have a 4-year degree or higher in the typical US community: 28.84% of adults 25 and older in the borough have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Huntingdon in 2022 was $30,794, which is lower middle income relative to Pennsylvania, and middle income relative to the rest of the US. This equates to an annual income of $123,176 for a family of four. However, Huntingdon contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.

The people who call Huntingdon home describe themselves as belonging to a variety of racial and ethnic groups.
