Whitewater is a somewhat small city located in the state of Wisconsin. With a population of 15,638 people and five associated neighborhoods, Whitewater is the 59th largest community in Wisconsin.

And if you like science, one thing you'll find is that Whitewater has lots of scientists living in town - whether they be life scientists, physical scientists (like astronomers), or social scientists (like geographers!). So, if you're scientific-minded, you might like it here too.

One interesting thing about the economy is that relatively large numbers of people worked from their home: 8.91% of the workforce. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce this is high compared to the rest of the county. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Whitewater is a small town with a large college student population. Because of this, there is a real youthful, hip vibe to the place, and much of the life in the town is centered on the college. This has helped Whitewater to buck the trend of other small towns that have suffered declining populations over the past 20 to 30 years. Spending by students, and faculty and staff jobs, are a big part of the local economy.

Whitewater, while not large, also appears to be attractive to some younger, educated professionals, who help shape the character of the city.

The education level of Whitewater citizens is substantially higher than the typical US community, as 32.89% of adults in Whitewater have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Whitewater in 2022 was $19,277, which is low income relative to Wisconsin and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $77,108 for a family of four. However, Whitewater contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.
